The Ease of River Cruising
| Ships |
The river cruise experience offers passengers the best of two worlds. Ships are small and intimate with approximately 134 passengers. A ship of this size allows the opportunity to make friends with other passengers as well as the crew. By the time the river cruise is over it is most likely that you will feel like family. My first river cruise was along the Danube River from Budapest to Passau, Germany. The crew and all the passengers were sad to leave one another. At the time I thought this had to do with the special crew and people aboard. I have since traveled the Rhine River in Germany and the Seine/Soane Rivers n France and have experienced the same feeling when the trip ends.
Unlike the large Ocean Liners (which is more about the ship) the main attraction of river cruising is the destinations offered. Many of the same destinations are offered with virtually all of the River Cruise Lines. You can expect to see charming towns rich in history , towns you probably would not see doing a land tour only. It is not unusual to find passengers travelling for two weeks to a month aboard these vessels. When sailing along the rivers of Europe you can expect to be an arms length from some of the charming little towns that you pass through. The River Cruise itinerary is well planned with local tour guides meeting the passengers at the ship and escorting tours filled with history and charm. The local guides are historians and take great pride in their part of the world. They are happy to share their knowledge with you. In each town there is allotted time to explore on your own if you so desire, stop and have a coffee or drink and socialize with the town people. Great way to see the world.
River Cruises are casual in nature making it a comfortable way to travel.
